Greg's South Africa Trip

3rd post of the day-If you don't like pictures of animals, just stop now!  Greg went to Johannesburg, South Africa last week and over the weekend, he was able to go with some guys from the office to Black Rhino lodge at Pilanesburg Game Reserve!
South Africa is just amazingly beautiful and the kids and I were envious of all the really cool animals God created that Greg was able to see!

I think this is a cape buffalo
 There were huge anthills there

I believe this is an impala below
the vehicle for their game drives

 WOW!  Elephants

 and Rhinos

 and more elephants-Oh my!

Wait is he in South Africa or the Philippines?  It's a lizard
This is Greg's room at the lodge

 and giraffes too!

and zebras!  I read somewhere that each one has a different stripe pattern, like the fingerprints of a person!  So cool!

My "Grandmommy" mom's mother would have loved all the birds at this place!  Greg said the guide kept talking about how unusual they were and rarely seen-which made Greg laugh since he was mainly going for things much larger than birds.  They are pretty though and I love the strikingly bright color of the orange one!

These bumps in the water are hippos.  I also read that this is the safer way to see them because when it is really dry they aggressively defend their water!

Below are a couple of more rhinos

Such a gorgeous place-hope we can all go sometime!
among all the big animals, Greg also saw this cute little rabbit!

 More pictures around the lodge

Since they didn't see lions at the reserve (sadly on Sunday it was raining and roads were too slippery for the game drive to be safe) they stopped to see them at this park on the way back to the city.

These pictures of Greg with the baby lions really made the kids wish they had gotten to go along!

I am pretty sure these are meerkats

Greg has a collection of Hard Rock Cafe shirts-I really want to get them all out at once and count to see how many and make a list of all the cities they are from.  Neither of us knew there was one in Johannesburg before he left but he saw it and was able to get a shirt before he came back.  Some of his others are:Myrtle Beach, SC-I bought it while visiting my friend from Kindergarten, Katy and her family.  He bought one in Hong Kong last Christmas.  We have one here in Makati-kind of like the Buckhead of Manila.  He has shirts from cafes in the Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, and the one in Atlanta too.  Maybe he can add to his collection again when we go to Singapore over Spring Break.
