Scout trip to the Yorktown

We drove to Charleston to spend Friday night in a hotel.  We had an amazing BBQ dinner at Nick's Original BBQ, walked around a little
showed Ashley what Spanish moss is

and spent the night at the hotel below.

Saturday night we got to sleep on board the USS Yorktown!
It's a big ship but Ryan is REALLY strong!
I thought about my parents SO many times while we were there.  My mom lived there for a while when Daddy was in the Navy and loved Charleston so much.  Daddy would have loved to have shown the boys around the ship and told them all about the airplanes we saw too!  I wish so much that we had had more time with them as grandparents!
So how far can we shoot this one???

There were girls and sisters who went but a much smaller number than boys.  We got to sleep in the officers quarters with just a few to each room-which were a nice size with a community bathroom down the hall.  Ashley loved sleeping on the top bunk!  The guys quarters were much smaller and more crowded-a huge room full of bunks hanging 4 high-there was a height requirement for you to be allowed to sleep on the top 2.  Greg saw our room and said it was MUCH nicer!

The scouts took a class about oceanography
I could just see the wheels turning in his head as he studied how these interesting doors latch

These pictures are from our brief stop in summer 2012-Ryan was 7, Ashley 4 and Scott 9

It was fun to just visit then but more fun to spend the night!  Though I am glad we don't wake up to a trumpet playing "Reveille" every morning!

We also visited Fort Moultrie before we drove back home to Greenville.  It was a really fun weekend!

Ashley was more excited about the ladybug she found than the fort!
