All the classes take turns doing a chapel program and Ryan did his a couple of weeks ago and Scott's was the next Friday. They both did a terrific job and their classes were all very proud of their hard work!
This year's chapel theme is Be Loving and Compassionate-
Ryan's program was about loving your enemies. They sang a few songs and did a little dancing-naturally! Then several of the kids recited Bible verses-Ryan did really well with his. The teacher had taken movies of the kids on the playground and in the classroom of them acting out situations of being kind and forgiving. At the end everyone got a certificate for their hard work.
Ryan held up a sign during their final song and he had been handed the sign upside down so it was upside down when he held it up for everyone to read. All the kids in the audience laughed and Ryan laughed too and then fixed it. This impressed me and showed me how much he has grown up lately because a while back he probably would have cried or been upset at being laughed at. Kids are such amazing blessings from God and can teach us so much if we are watching!
This picture makes me laugh since Ryan is completely off the ground! He is tall but not that much taller than his classmates
The class wrote about their field trip to the farm and having a picnic lunch where they could see the volcano-I liked his writing and picture.
Above is Ryan and his friend Alex having lunch together
APAC stands for Asia Pacific Activities Conference (which allows the students to compete and participate in a full range of events with schools in China, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong and Vietnam), and they were having a big swim meet at Brent after Ryan's chapel program. I was told by a friend that they often ask for volunteers to be host homes for students from other countries who come to Brent for competitions. I thought that sounded like a neat thing to do. Greg went to a parents program the school was doing about the ELC Digital Discovery Program-aka Computer Lab. They have i-pads that the kids use. So while Greg was playing with the i-pads, Ashley and I watched the big kids swim.
She loved watching them get ready on their blocks and jump in to make a big big splash-like she does when she jumps in the pool!
This is Scott's class program-
His friend Jude lighting the candle at the beginning.
Their theme was Showing Love and Compassion to the sick and poor. They acted out a twist on the Good Samaritan. Scott was the "Good Rapper" He didn't know what that was when I first asked him or what he should wear-which made me laugh. I told him to wear blue jeans-I told him that he would get in trouble for not following the dress code if he wore his jeans showing his underwear like the actual rappers do, his longest shirt and a baseball cap turned backwards or sideways. He came in carrying a cardboard "boom box" that someone had cut out and colored-made me laugh again.
Scott's friend Mac is the one with the blue backpack on-he gets beaten up and all of his cool gadgets are stolen
Scott helps and takes him somewhere to be cared for
Of course, they sang and danced some too!
Here is where the class gets their certificates
Above is Dr. Sutherland the awesome ELC and Lower School principal who comes into chapel each week after the program wearing this hat and a star badge as the Sheriff to make announcements and discipline/dress code/upcoming event reminders. Then he goes backstage and comes out again, as himself, without his props to give out the Brent Pride awards. He does a terrific job and really interacts well with the kids.

And what they wish they could do all the time!
