Shanghai

We were late getting to Shanghai and missed dinner at a restaurant so we had a hotel room picnic that was delicious!

 Fancy bathrooms!

This is in the hotel lobby-Ashley liked the fancy lights!
This building is called the Pearl tv tower-another of Ashley's favorites because there is pink on it.
We were waiting on our guide to come out with our tickets to go up in the tower

 Views from the tower!

After looking out the windows on one floor, we went down one floor and found an all glass floor to look through!

The tower has a roller coaster that Greg and the boys enjoyed!  Ashley was indignant that she was told that she was too small to ride it

Downstairs in the tower was a museum about the history of Shanghai-we laughed at their display of old cars!

This was a pretty fancy sedan chair to ride in

This was at the silk factory-all the spools in front of the kids were cocoons being unwound by machine.
Below we are all pulling to flatten and spread out one layer in a silk comforter.
neat Chinese silk clothes in the store at the silk factory
Then we walked around in an area called Old Shanghai and found yet another McDonalds

No we don't know the lady below! A very interesting part of our trip was that people were OFTEN wanting to take pictures of/with us.  So after this had been going on for a while (sometimes they would ask/sometimes not, sometimes they would try to be discreet and others very bold) we decided we would take pictures of them too!
Our afternoon ice cream stop!

boys enjoying their blizzards

above and below were at our hotel-the kids thought this rotating door was fascinating and would ask coming and going EVERY day, can we just go around 1 more time?????

This is the view from across the water-the pearl tv tower is behind us

Looking down The Bund-many old European style buildings that were so pretty

The Chinese acrobat show that we saw after dinner!  It was amazing!

hat juggling

plate spinning-they showed us at the end that their plates were not attached to the sticks!

Lots of people on one bicycle
by the end there were 5 guys on motorcycles inside this cage!  Hard to believe that no one crashed.  It was a terrific show that we all enjoyed!
Setting off on our own-last day of the trip.  We went to the Science and Technology Museum and met Scott's 3rd grade teacher from Manila.  She and her family are there now teaching at another international school.

These girls wanted a picture with Ryan!  People also would just reach out and touch Scott's hair as he walked by-I think it is a great color but wouldn't reach out and touch his hair if I didn't know him!

The museum had a beautiful gallery of animals from all over the world
Danielle is holding Ashley up to see in the microscope!
The outside of the museum

Then she took us to a great restaurant for lunch-where we enjoyed a break from ALL Chinese food!
Making our way back to our hotel
Ashley was worn out from lots of long but great days traveling!
