Her class celebrated the 100th day of school recently and her crown has 100 jewels on it-10 each on 10 paper strips. They had a terrific time celebrating and did lots of neat things. She was supposed to take to school a collection of 100 items to share so I gave her some ideas and she chose to write a book with 100 pages. She numbered all the pages and she started with names of friends, classmates, family, and beloved cousins back at home and then when she ran out of people she wrote sight words, colors, months, and days of the week. For the last page, she made a fancy big pink and purple 100 that took up the whole page and decorated it with silver glitter!
She also had to take 100 pieces of something to eat to go into a big snack for all the students to share. She counted out 100 chocolate chips and took those!
I have had a nasty cold and was so touched by the sweet get well notes she made for me!
I am glad to be "vaubal" I think she means valuable.
Ashley has also been talking about living/non-living things in class and they have grown mango seeds in a zip loc bag with a wet paper towel. She brought her bag of sprouting seeds home recently and now wants to plant them in our yard!
Below are pictures that her teacher shared with me from various activities through the year

When I went to school and was the Mystery Reader
It's really not nice to take VERY unflattering pictures of people as they read aloud!
Each child had to make and present a culture box about their home country. It was really fun!
I was not there for her presentation so enjoyed seeing her share the things we had put in her box!
With the other flight attendants in their special costume for the Christmas program. I was glad to get this too since she was tired, hot, and wouldn't pose nicely for a picture for us after the program.
Moms were also invited to share about their home countries so I shared some of our family pictures in the snow and pictures of well known landmarks in DC and around the country, played them the song 50 nifty United States and brought them corn muffins and dried cranberries-it was right before Thanksgiving.

They did a unit about fabric and learned about how it is woven and names of many types of fabric. They all got a square of fabric, made it dirty on purpose, and then went outside to wash them.
