My last post was over 2 months ago and I am not sure where the time has gone-we have been going going going all over the place. I will go back and post pictures from May soon-we celebrated birthdays and the end of school. They have a neat thing called Moving Up Day at the boys school. School was out and we left Manila, landed in Atlanta, spent 2 nights at Grammy's and went to St. Simon's for a week. The beach and the cousins were a great help in getting over jet lag!
Then we went through Savannah, spent 1 night in Charleston, and then a few in Myrtle Beach with my friend Katy that I've known since Kindergarten! It was terrific being with her and her sweet family. Then we drove through Columbia to Greenville and stayed with my parents' Navy friends. It was wonderful to be with them and be "home in Greenville," and see lots of our friends there.
Mostly we stayed at Bev's in Marietta and spent time with friends and family in Norcross, lots of time with Jodi, Emily, and their families, and did fun sightseeing things in Atlanta.
We left Atlanta at the end of July and spent 5 days seeing Tokyo on the way back to Manila! It was an amazing place to visit. I think we did about as much as we could possibly have squeezed in traveling with a 4 year old. We did a half day bus tour of big landmarks one morning, saw Mt. Fuji, rode a high speed bullet train (and more subways and trains than we could count), met a friend of a friend who is in Tokyo with her husband's job and went to the zoo with her and 3 of her children, saw my high school friend, Yuki whom I have not seen since 1992 and met her 2 children, and went to the island of Odaibe.
We arrived back in Manila on Friday night, Aug 3rd about 10pm. We had to laugh and feel welcomed back when we were told that the container our luggage was in was stuck inside the plane. They couldn't get it out that night and we finally gave up about midnight and came to the house and went to bed! So they had to bring us our luggage on Saturday.
We were extremely thankful to our house helper, Ms. Dali, who had left groceries for us so we could have pancakes for breakfast and not have to go out anywhere on Saturday. We had mostly adjusted back to the time zone here while in Tokyo-it is only one hour off from Manila.
Monday was Open House at the boys school so we got to meet new teachers and both seem very nice. We were all ready-lunches packed, uniforms laid out, and everything for school to start on Tuesday. We were eating breakfast and almost ready to go when I turned on my phone and realized that I had a text from the school cancelling because of excessive rain and flooding. No school again today-so we have enjoyed 2 extra days of vacation and played wii, board games, read, watched Olympics, played with friends, and Luke-the hamster. All are excited about going back tomorrow though! I will post some of the thousands of pictures I took this summer really soon!
