Since we got Max we had kept a towel in the bottom of his crate-in the beginning it was in case of an accident but later it was our attempt at comfort for him since the bottom of his crate is a plastic tray. He has decided that the towels are really toys to chew on, eat, sling around, and destroy. So we got him a mattress. It is an egg crate mattress with a zipper cover and fits exactly in the crate. We explained to the kids that it was not to be taken out and played with.
However, Max was not the only one who loved his new mattress! I joked and said that if the kids liked Max's house so much, we shouldn't have wasted our money on beds and new linens when we moved back from Manila!
Max looked at them like "why are they in MY house?????" He sometimes now even goes in there to lay down before we tell him to when we go upstairs at night.
Sadly though he is such a smart dog that he has figured out how to get inside the zipper and has bitten off some pieces of his egg crate mattress! We had been so proud of him for not eating it and were thinking of getting him a big pillow type dog bed to enjoy outside his house-oh well! He is still just a baby in a big dog body and labs are known for chewing. We have been really lucky considering that Gus (one of Greg's family's dogs growing up) chewed the deck and window sills and so much other stuff that Greg's dad was ready to get rid of him if he ate anything else!
In some ways, he is like having another child-we call him the 4 legged one but he is sweet and we enjoy him!
