Another first grade mom sewed 90 fabric bags and the parent were all asked to send in items or money to purchase items so that the kids could each pack a bag for some elementary students in a less fortunate school. I was proud of Ryan for being so excited about this project-he went shopping with me and we got pens, pencils, crayons, markers, a pencil sharpener, erasers, some snacks, and a toy.
I went shopping with the mom who sewed all the bags and we used the money other parents sent in and then divided the goodies between the 3 first grade classes. We put the items in chairs and let Ryan and his classmates go around to all the chairs and pack their bags. Each bag has a tag with a child's name on it and when they finished packing all the 1st graders wrote "from" and their name and could draw a picture on their tag.
Ashley was not to be left out and of course, wanted to pack a "pink" bag! Which toy should I choose?
I think all the children felt good about having done something for someone else that day!
